Thomas Plagemann is the Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Capital Markets for Vivint Solar, a leading full-service residential solar energy provider, where he is responsible for products, new markets, government affairs, developing Vivint Solar’s tax equity and capital markets fundraising efforts and leading the financing strategy beyond its existing third party financing structures.
Thomas has over 25 years of experience originating and executing financings and investments in energy and infrastructure assets globally and has been involved either as advisor, debt arranger, or equity investor in projects with capital costs in excess of $30 billion. He has completed transactions across the balance sheet from debt to equity, and has experience with all varieties of renewable energy projects, conventional energy projects, bio fuels projects, and regulated utility transactions.
Prior to joining Vivint Solar Thomas was Head of Energy, U.S. Corporate & Investment Banking for Santander Global Banking & Markets where he managed the team responsible for all the bank’s activities with North American Energy clients, across the Energy sector, from well-head to wall socket.
Thomas started his career at Deutsche Bank and has since held management roles at GE Capital, AIG and just prior to Santander at First Solar as the Global Head of Project Finance and Transaction Execution, where he and his team financed and closed the sale of projects totaling over 1.6GW-AC of capacity with a total value in excess of $8 billion, including significant projects such as Desert Sunlight, Topaz, Agua Caliente, and Antelope Valley. Desert Sunlight was awarded 2012 North American Solar Deal of the Year by Euromoney/Project Finance Magazine.
Thomas received a Masters in International Affairs, with a specialization in finance, from Columbia University and a B.A. from the University of Minnesota.
